The 'Beefsteak' tomato is known for its large, meaty, and juicy fruits, making it a popular choice for both gardening and cooking. The flavor is exceptional, and the large size of the tomatoes makes them perfect for sauces, salads, sandwiches, and grilling.

Growing Information:

  1. Sowing:

    • Timing: Sow indoors in early spring (January-February) to have young plants ready for transplanting after the risk of frost has passed (late April or early May).
    • Sowing depth: 1–2 cm.
    • Row spacing: 50–60 cm, plant spacing 40–50 cm, as these plants can get quite large.
  2. Growing Conditions:

    • Sunlight: Beefsteak tomatoes need plenty of sunlight and warmth, making them ideal for growing in sunny, southern-facing garden beds.
    • Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil. The recommended pH range is 6.0–6.8.
    • Watering: Consistent watering is necessary, but avoid excessive moisture to prevent root rot.
  3. Care:

    • Remove side shoots and growth tips to direct energy toward fruit development.
    • Tomatoes need strong support as the fruits can become quite heavy.
    • Regular fertilization encourages growth and fruiting.
  4. Harvesting:

    • Harvest in late summer when the fruits are fully ripe and red.
